Canine Teams
The Holmdel Township Police Department is committed to using the latest technology and investigative tools. This includes the use of highly trained police canine teams.
The Holmdel Police K-9 Program dates back to 1967, when a German Shepherd named Nemo, badge #1, was donated to the Department from the US Army’s K-9 Corps. Since that time, many canines have served the Department. With the retirement of long time Canine Officer, Sergeant Edward Martinez, and his partner Patriot, Ptl. Darryl Jackson was assigned to carry on the tradition.
Ptl. Jackson joined the Holmdel Police Department in July 2016. He is a graduate of Red Bank Regional High School and Kean University. Jackson began his Law Enforcement career in 2013, when he graduated from the John Stamler Police Academy, and became a Police Officer at Kean University.
The Department acquired K-9 Murph through the generosity of Dr. Caesar Depaço of Summit Nutritionals. Murph, K-9 badge #14, is a two-year-old Belgian Malinois. In December 2019, Ptl. Darryl Jackson, and Murph, graduated from the Morris County Canine Academy. The team is certified in Patrol and Narcotics Detection.
